Medical Resource Department

The Medical Resource Department provides medical information to clients and staff to meet the health needs of our clients. Prior to receiving services through OCCOA, a staff RN performs an assessment of the clients medical, physical, social, and emotional status. An appropriate plan of care is written to meet identified needs. If a client has needs greater than what OCCOA's services can provide, a referral to an appropriate agency will be made with the client's written permission.

The RN provides training to agency personnel to help them better serve our clients. Some examples of training which have been provided include, elder abuse and neglect, confidentiality, hand washing and infection control, and proper body mechanics.

Frequently Asked Questions

After a request is made for an assessment, how long can I expect to wait until the RN calls me?

The RN will call you within 7 to 10 days to set up an appointment time.

How will my assessment be conducted?

The nurse will call you to set up a meeting.

If my doctor prescribes medications I need assistance with, who can help me administer them?

If you need assistance with taking your medication, the RN can help you with a referral to someone who provides this service. The RN is a part-time employee. Therefore, she cannot be responsible for administering daily medications. The service providers are not licensed to administer medications.

After I have had my assessment and my care plan has been made, what happens if my needs change?

If there is significant change in your status, you or a family member can call the In-Home Service department. The nurse will re-assess you if you need to add personal care or respite services. Otherwise, once you have been assessed, you can add or subtract services just by calling.

"The most valuable things in life are not measured in monetary terms. The real important things are not houses and lands, stocks and bonds, automobiles and real estate, but friendships, trust, confidence, empathy, mercy, love, and faith."
