Meal Program

OCCOA provides nutritious meals for older adults in congregate meal settings, and to homebound older adults in Otsego County. Operating Standards from the Michigan Office of Services to the Aging help ensure that this valuable program is nutritionally sound, and available on a donation basis.

HOME-DELIVERED MEAL PROGRAM

The home-delivered meal program was established to help and care for the nutritional needs of homebound older adults. Often referred to as the “Meals on Wheels Program,” they are the hot and frozen meals that are prepared in the OCCOA kitchen and distributed to the homebound older adults of Otsego County.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I qualify for home-delivered meals?


Clients must be age 60 or older and homebound. Marital status and income levels are not eligibility factors. All clients are contacted by the OCCOA Medical Resource Coordinator within 10 business days of initiating the service to ensure that dietary needs are being supported.

Who delivers the home-delivered meals?

Meals are delivered via the Otsego County Bus System and volunteers.

Where are the meals made?

Congregate and home-delivered meals are prepared in the Alten Zimmer kitchen by the OCCOA kitchen staff.

What is the value of the meals I receive?

Meals range in value from $3.50 to over $5.00, however, Operating Standards from the Michigan Office of Services to the Aging ensure that meals are available on a donation basis. No one is turned away for inability to pay. OCCOA welcomes and depends upon additional donations to fund this valuable program.

How do I start the home-delivered meal program?

Clients, or their caregivers, may initiate home-delivered meals by calling the OCCOA office and speaking to a customer service representative. Meals can be started on the first delivery day after the initial request is initiated and may continue for as long as there is a need for them.
