In-Home Service DepartmentThe OCCOA In-Home Service Department provides homemaking, personal care, respite care and friendly reassurance to eligible older adults in Otsego County (60 years of age or older). Our current staff of ten provides service to over 200 clients. Our department’s goal is to assist older adults in maintaining a healthy and clean environment in which to live independently for as long as is safely possible. Service is available Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., for those who qualify. Frequency of service is determined by need, as assessed by our Medical Resources Coordinator.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Are the services provided by OCCOA free? Programs are designed to provide services that promote independent living at an affordable cost. Clients are encouraged to make a donation for the services they receive. What types of cleaning are the service providers allowed to do? Allowable homemaking tasks include:
Yes! Respite care is available for two to four hours a week for those who qualify. How do I become qualified for services? You may contact OCCOA's Medical Resources Coordinator, who will conduct an assessment to determine services you qualify for. Is qualification for services based on income and marital status? No. Services are determined by medical need and age. Are the service providers allowed to administer my medications? Our Medical Resources Coordinator can help you find someone who is qualified for this type of assistance. Are service providers allowed to do foot care? Service providers may bathe, dry, and put lotion on your feet, but they may not cut or trim nails. This type of assistance is available at our monthly foot care clinics.
