Frequently Asked Questions
Are donations for meals and services tax deductible?
Unfortunately, donations for meals and services are not tax deductible. Money donated, other than for meals and services, is tax deductible.
Can the Otsego County Commission on Aging (OCCOA) receive charitable contributions, and can the donor, individual or business entity, use it as a deduction on their tax return?
As a component unit of Otsego County, Michigan, OCCOA is a political subdivision of the state of Michigan, which makes it a qualified organization to receive "deductible" charitable contributions. To be deductible, the contribution must be made soley for "public purposes." Certainly, OCCOA provides services for "public purposes."
There are, of course, various limitations on the deductibility by individuals and businesses for charitable contributions. All donors should seek the advice of their tax preparer/consultant before assuming the level of deductibility.
How do I donate to the Otesgo County Commission on Aging, if it is not for meals or services?
Checks may be made payable to the Otsego County Commission on Aging and mailed to the address listed above. Both cash and checks are accepted at the business office. Donations may also be dropped off at that same address. Receipts are available
I can only give a little. Is my donation still worthwhile?
Yes! Every little bit helps. A lot of little donations can add up to a sizeable donation!
Thank you for helping and caring for the older adults of Otsego County with your generous donation!
